Happy as a Clam

Date:

A note for everyone: If you take the effort and about five minutes of time to simply sit back and think of three things that made you happy one day, you’ll be amazed at how many things you realize that happened and how happy they made you feel … maybe for an instant, but still fun to remember.

Gem's

For me, I can never narrow it down to three things that made me happy; but going to Highlands the other day to pick up some of that fantastic strawberry cream cheese at Gem’s should have been enough. That staff certainly takes the lead from their owner, helps customers above and beyond and are downright happy and pleasant all the time; besides, it’s always fun just to stop in there.

Also had to stop at the mayor’s pet store at Miller and Bay Avenue and learned not only does she sell terrific toys and foods for all kinds of animals, but she was quite creative in designing a tee shirt specifically for Highlands!. She has a few there for sale, so it’s worth a stop just to see them and perhaps make a purchase. Look at the design closely and see how clever she was in including a fact in the design.

Then seeing the bulletin board in front of OLPH Church on Navesink Avenue made me realize once again how cleverly posted are those messages. Right now there are congratulations for a couple who just got married there and it’s nice to let the world know of their happiness.

And seeing and hearing all the folks dining at and talking about how terrific the Inlet Café is now that it’s open again and back to its old form of terrific lunches and dinners. Highlands has always been known for great restaurants, for good reason, and whether it’s standbys and quality settings like Bahrs, the inlet or the Proving Ground, as new as Sea and Sand , the Indian fusion restaurant on Bay or more, Highlands’ restaurants have always been standouts.

Some more stops that one day also meant Guaranteed Plants in Locust to thank them for the magnificent floral display in front of the altar at OLPH. The very generous lady who ordered and purchased the floral display had taken a photo of the altar to show the florist, and the florist took great time and effort to make a very special bouquet that fit perfectly.

And any stop at Trivett’s Auto Repair on Memorial Parkway has you leaving happily. Even though the boss of the place…Anne….and she really is boss…is out this week recuperating from some surgery, Bill takes the time to help everyone who comes in, whether it be for a change of oil or a major repair. Can’t help but be happy leaving there, but it will be even better soon when Ann is back at the front desk..

Just like at Jaspan’s Hardware on First Avenue in Atlantic Highlands; you don’t even have to know exactly what you need when you go in there; simply explain your problem, they’ll understand, and of course have the right parts or equipment you need to get the job done.

How can anyone not be happy living in the Bayshore?

Happy

happy happy happy happy happy happy happy happy happy happy tent he lived in stood right smack up against the wall of the shallow, dull-colored forest separating his own squadron from Dunbar’ s. Immediately alongside was the abandoned railroad ditch that carried the pipe that carried the  aviation gasoline down to the fuel trucks at the airfield. Thanks to Orr, his roommate, it was the most luxurious tent in the squadron. Each time Yossarian returned from one of his holidays in the hospital or rest leaves in Rome, he was surprised by some new comfort Orr had installed in his absence – running water, wood-burning  fireplace, cement floor. Yossarian had chosen the site, and he and Orr had raised the tent to get her. Orr, who was a grinning pygmy with pilot’s wings and thick, wavy brown hair parted in the middle, furnished all the knowledge, while Yossarian, who was taller, stronger, broader, and faster, did most of the work. Just the two of them lived there, although the tent was big enough for six. When summer came, Orr rolled up the side flaps to allow a breeze that never blew to flush away the air baking inside. The tent he lived in stood right smack up against the wall of the shallow, dull-colored forest separating his own squadron from Dunbar’ s.
