There is no doubt the Middletown Police Department is on the job 24/7, not only offering excellent protection and security at a matter-of-fact part of their job, but also in the variety of services they attend to in the course of a day, week or month.
For instance, the detailed police activity report for August shows that during the month, the department responded to 4,881 calls, representing a variety of their services. They responded to 415 first aid calls along with the township’s volunteer departments, as well as responded to 97 burglar alarms and 132 fire calls. There were also 118 motor vehicle crashes in Middletown during August, as well as 84 arrests, with ten of them for outstanding bench warrants and 18 for domestic violence.
Of the total number of residents, 18 were of residents of Middletown, with the majority coming from out-of-town and from such diverse areas as Brooklyn, and Massachusetts in addition to several local municipalities in Monmouth County. Charges of those arrested ranged from driving under the influence and shoplifting to contempt of court and hindering and resisting arrest. There were some arrests for shoplifting, one for failure to register as a sex offender and failure to change of address and at least one for terroristic threats and harassment.
Next time you see a Middletown…or any town…police officer, thank him or her for your safety.

brew brew brew brew brew brew On guard! you shout. You start with a gambit, and I–fool that I am!–fall for it. I adopt an unfamiliar position, but try to guard it as thoroughly as I can. Lunging, you assault my philosophy with sharp Socratic inquiry–words as swords, adroitly hunting for a gap. An infirmity in my logic and thinking instantly attracts a vigorous onslaught. With adroit footwork, I pull back quickly and cut off your attack with a crisp parry four. Triumphantly, I try to attack in turn, but alas! With a flick, and as quick as that, you spring for my right flank. Caught with no additional justification for my position, it is indubitably a touch. Capitulating to your point, I slink back to my starting mark and you stroll back to yours. Our colloquy clangs on. As our bout draws to a conclusion, it is your victory, but I had put up a solid fight. Proudly, I doff my mask, draw my sword into a flourish, and bow. What I lost in sport, I gain in scholarship. I love all you guys who are always on here kissing the Middletown PD’s feet. Like any organization there are good and bad. Unfortunately, I have had the opportunity to deal with mostly the bad. I recently had a medical emergency due to side effects of new heart and blood pressure medications I have been prescribed for a recently diagnosed heart condition. I work outside and on August 7, the 5 day of that dangerous heat wave I suffered heat stroke brought on from the 104 degree heat mixed with four fairly new medications. I lost about a half hour of time and woke up shirtless passed out on somebody’s lawn about 3 blocks away from my work vehicle and job site. Within two minutes as I was coming too, I was surrounded by three of Middletown PD’s finest. The main officer was a cocky rookie who was aggressive and did not have the proper demeanor to be a cop. His partner was a gentleman and the supervisor was a phony ass who was professional to my face, but very unprofessional when he thought I couldn’t hear him.
They called me a liar, dismissed my explanation that I was having a medical emergency, and proceeded to charge me with attempting burglary (stating I was touching door handles trying to break into cars, and even though absolutely no drugs were found on me or in my work vehicle, being under the influence of a controlled substance.) If these officers were properly trained they would realize that the signs of heat stroke and being under the influence of a controlled substance are very similar.
They sent their charges to the county prosecutor who saw the trumped up charges for what they were downgrading the two original charges to a disorderly conduct charge. I guess that angered the Middletown PD so much that they chose to release false information for their monthly police blotter, listing my charges as burglary, possession, and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
Once the gold standard of reporters Carly Baldwin from the Middletown Patch saw my arrest with the wrong trumped up charges, she decided to make my story a front page Patch headline story. So I’m sorry and everyone is entitled to their opinion, but mine is that the Middletown Police are clowns. They are unprofessional, they are bullies if questioned in any way, and are undertrained. Maybe I shouldn’t be saying this on a public post, but I have already filed my complaint which opened an internal affairs investigation, and will be dealing with a lawsuit in the near future. The piece of garbage Baldwin and the Middletown Patch will be next on the list if they don’t issue a retraction to their fabricated story.
