AAUW Used Book Sale Re-Opens for the 54th Season




MIDDLETOWN - The AAUW Northern Monmouth County Branch will open its 54th year of its Used Book Sale on Saturday, Sept. 11. As in the past, the location for this very popular purveyor of history, culture, music and recreation is Old First Church, 69 Kings Highway.

Early bird book lovers are invited to a special private preview from 8:30 to 10 am with a $5 admission fee. The sale will be open for all from 10am to 1 pm. .

All attendees will be required to wear masks and practice social distancing.


Following the one day event on Sept. 11, the AAUW local branch will have the shop open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. except for holiday weekends.

With a reputation of having something for everyone at more than reasonable prices, the shop offers books at $3.00 for hardcover and $2.00 for paperbacks. Children’s books are an additional bargain at ten to fifty cents each.

Persons wishing to donate books can visit the location Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 11:30.am. or Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Guidelines for making tax deductible donations can be found on the group’s website aauw-nj-nmcb.org or by calling 732-275-2237.

This year’s special features include 2020 and 2021 hardcover releases by James Patterson, Danial Silva, John Grishma, Paula McLain, Harlan Coban, Ken Follett and others in the fiction category, a broad selection of DVDs and books on tape, “Humans of New York”, stories and photographs of everyday people among its coffee table and art books, specials in books and DVDs for children, including board books, picture books, and multicultural for, preschool through Young Adult, history, reference and series books.

All proceeds provide scholarships for women at Brookdale Community College and Monmouth University.

The Northern Monmouth County Branch of AAUW has been making a difference in the community for over 90 years and welcomes new members to join them in advancing equity for women and girls. Membership in AAUW is open to any graduate holding an associate or equivalent, baccalaureate, or higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
