NAVESINK – The annual St. Francis of Assisi Day Blessing of the Animals will be hosted at an Animal Service at All Saints’ Memorial Church, “The Stone Church” on Sunday, October 3 at 2 pm.
Interested persons are invited to bring their pet cat, dog, bunny, bird, reptile, fish, or anything else, on a leash or in a crate, cage or other container.
As always, the Rev. Debbie Cook, pastor, said, “if your pet is unable to join us, please feel free to bring a photo instead.”
Rev. Debbie added she will also lead prayers for those who have lost pets in the past year. Each pet present during the rites will receive an individual blessing.
This annual tradition and popular community event is in honor of St. Francis of Assisi who was known for his love for all God’s creation, treating all fellow creatures as brothers and sisters. It is always held on or close to the feast day of St. Francis, celebrated Oct. 4.
The event is scheduled to be held outside in the covered carriage sheds/parking area at Stone Church. It will be held, rain or shine and is free.. At the same time, the church will accept pet food donations or financial donations for Project Pet, the local pet pantry.
