A special memorial service commemorating the 25th Anniversary of 9/11 will be held at the Middletown World Trade Center Memorial Gardens on Friday, September 11 at 7 p.m. The World Trade Center Gardens (WTX) are located near to the Middletown Arts Center at 36 Church St.
The anniversary is a tribute to 9/11 families, community members, first responders, veterans, local officials and others and honors the 37 Middletown residents who perished in the event as well as those who have since died from 9/11 related illnesses.
The memorial service will include tributes and ceremony designed to bring the community together to remember those lost and to reaffirm the township’s promise to never forget.
The late Middletown Police Detective Lieutenant Joseph Capriottiwill be among those remembered in a special way during the ceremony. Lieutenant Capriotti gained the name of “keeper of the list” because of his actions in the aftermath of the attacks. The detective personally contacted every Middletown family who had lost a loved one in the attack.

The service also gives residents the opportunity see the completion of improvements to the Memorial Gardens, designed and completed to preserve and enhance the space as a place of remembrance, reflection and hope for future generations.
Residents are also invited to participate in a more personal way by purchasing and displaying a Remembrance Yard Sign being offer by the Middletown township World Trade Center Memorial Gardens Committee. Proceeds of the sale of the signs, at $25 each, will benefit the Gardens and help preserve the location for generations.
The signs are available Saturday and Sunday, September 5and 6th, at the ShopRite of Kings Commons at 1500 Route 35 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
