46th Annual Flea Market

Date:

The 46th annual Atlantic Highlands Historical Society flea market will be held at the Marina Saturday, September 12 from 10 am to 4 pm. The highly popular and much sought after event will feature antiques, collectables and crafts, including new merchandise, as well as some second time around goodies one and all can use with assurance that there is at least one thing to attract every visitor.

A variety of household items, many furniture items, vintage and new jewelry, tools, toys, clothing, bottles, books, postcards, fishing and boating equipment, old and new plants, flowers, and lots more will be available.
In addition, the Society will be selling food and refreshments. It will also feature the signature “Treasures Or” table and a chance auction, with proceeds going to the restoration of Strauss Mansion Museum.  Taine date for the event is scheduled for the following Saturday September 19.

There are still some spaces available for those who want to be included. For further information, call 732-291-4313 or 908-902-8967 or 732-291-9337.

The temporary closure of the Museum means a loss of revenue from visitors on Museum Sundays and from events held at the Mansion. Society members are grateful to all those supporters who have donated this year and renewed their memberships in the Historical Society. Society President Lynne Petillo noted the society depends on contributions to carry out its mission of preservation, education, and promoting local culture.

Persons wishing to donate are invited to contribute through the website at www.ahhistory.org or by sending a check made payable to AHHS to P.O. Box 108, Atlantic Highlands, NJ 07716. Many interested persons like to make donations in memory of someone who is deceased but for whom preservation of local history has been important.

The Atlantic Highlands Historical Society is a volunteer run 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Immediately alongside was the abandoned railroad ditch that carried the pipe that carried the  aviation gasoline down to the fuel trucks at the airfield. Thanks to Orr, his roommate, it was the most luxurious tent in the squadron. Each time Yossarian returned from one of his holidays in the hospital or rest leaves in Rome, he was surprised by some new comfort Orr had installed in his absence – running water, wood-burning  fireplace, cement floor. Yossarian had chosen the site, and he and Orr had raised the tent to get her. Orr, who was a grinning pygmy with pilot’s wings and thick, wavy brown hair parted in the middle, furnished all the knowledge, while Yossarian, who was taller, stronger, broader, and faster, did most of the work. Just the two of them lived there, although the tent was big enough for six. When summer came, Orr rolled up the side flaps to allow a breeze that never blew to flush away the air baking inside. The tent he lived in stood right smack up against the wall of the shallow, dull-colored forest separating his own squadron from Dunbar’ s.
