This is an important meeting where we will brain storm, discuss options, and consider decisions about how the Society moves forward

The Highlands Historical Society will hold a special meeting Thursday, August 27 at 7 p.m. at the Robert Wilson recreation Center, Waterwitch Avenue and invites all members and prospective members to attend and participate. This is an important meeting where we will brain storm, discuss options, and consider decisions about how the Society moves forward

This is a very important meeting to explore new and creative means of engaging and strengthening the Historical Society, “ said Society President Sheila Weinstock. “The Executive board is seeking the ideas, information and opinions of every member as well as the many prospective members who are showing a keen interest in becoming part of the Society.”

The meeting is coming the week after the gala celebrations both in Highlands and in Middletown honoring the Centennial English Channel swim anniversary of Trudy Ederle, the first woman to swim the Channel and a New Yorker who learned how to swim in the Shrewsbury River at the bridge. The river beneath what is now the Capt. Joseph Azzolina Bridge, between Highlands and Sea Bright is recorded as having the 8th strongest current in the world.

Weinstock said several critical matters will be addressed at the August 27 meeting, including important discussion about issues affecting the future of the organization. Included in discussions will be membership recruitment and retention, listed as high priorities for input and ideas. “ We want to explore new and creative ways to attract members, keep our current membership engaged, and strengthen the Historical Society—and we need your ideas and input,” Weinstock said in letter to current members.

This is an important meeting where we will brainstorm, discuss options, and consider decisions about how the Society moves forward. All members and prospective members are strongly encouraged to attend and be part of the conversation,” the president said.

Immediately alongside was the abandoned railroad ditch that carried the pipe that carried the  aviation gasoline down to the fuel trucks at the airfield. Thanks to Orr, his roommate, it was the most luxurious tent in the squadron. Each time Yossarian returned from one of his holidays in the hospital or rest leaves in Rome, he was surprised by some new comfort Orr had installed in his absence – running water, wood-burning  fireplace, cement floor. Yossarian had chosen the site, and he and Orr had raised the tent to get her. Orr, who was a grinning pygmy with pilot’s wings and thick, wavy brown hair parted in the middle, furnished all the knowledge, while Yossarian, who was taller, stronger, broader, and faster, did most of the work. Just the two of them lived there, although the tent was big enough for six.
