Highlands Mayor Carolyn Broullon outlined plans for Kavookjian Field after the borough received word it has been awarded the $272,500 grant it had requested in order to complete upgrades at the Route 36 borough-owned facility in Middletown.

The borough is planning to rehab the athletic field at Kavookjian in two stages , first through another community project funded by the Borough; that will be done later this year or early next year. The major portion of the overall long term project borough officials have been working on for some time will take place through 2027 and 2028 through the recently approved grant from Monmouth County Open Space.
“ We anticipated the larger project to cost around $545,000 in the application that was filed in June, “ the mayor said, noting the 50 percent total of the entire project, $272,500, “ is the full amount we asked.”

The field itself is not included in the upcoming work at Kavookjian, she said.
The Open Space grant recently announced for that will include a new backdrop, netting behind and along route 36, as well as drainage and fencing, dugout upgrades and installation of new amenities along with improvements to the retaining wall adjacent to Monmouth Hills, the residential community also in Middletown.
The borough is also securing a grant to replace the sign noting Kavookjian Field which is posted on the fence along Route 36 and has been absent a letter for some time. Previous attempts to make repairs to the lettering could not be completed properly, the mayor explained.
“These updates are long overdue, “ Broullon said, “and we hope the community interest in this field grows as well after the improvements are made.

And he is beautiful and radiant in all his splendor! Of You, Most High, he bears the likeness.Be praised, my Lord, through Sister Moon and the stars; in the heavens You have made them bright, precious and beautiful.Be praised, my Lord, through Brothers Wind and Air, and clouds and storms, and all the weather, through which You give Your creatures sustenance.Be praised, my Lord, through Sister Water; she is very useful, and humble, and precious, and pure.Be praised, my Lord, through Brother Fire, through whom You brighten the night. He is beautiful and cheerful, and powerful and strong.Be praised, my Lord, through our sister Mother Earth, who feeds us and rules us, and produces various fruits with colored flowers and herbs.Be praised, my Lord, through those who forgive for love of You; through those who endure sickness and trial. Happy those who endure in peace, for by You, Most High, they will be crowned.Be praised, my Lord, through our sister Bodily Death, from whose embrace no living person can escape. Woe to those who die in mortal sin! Happy those she finds doing Your most holy will. The second death can do no harm to them.
