Local historian Walter Guenther will speak about horrific storms that have hit Highlands over the years at the Thursday night meeting of the Highlands Historical Society.
Everyone is invited to attend the meeting, which will be held September 24 at 7:00 PM at the Highlands Community Center on Snug Harbor Ave.
Guenther, who also leads walking tours of the borough and highlights various stages of its history through the 20th century, chose storms of Highlands as the subject for this meeting in keeping with the often turbulent weather of this month,
His slideshow and stories will include many of the community’s wild weather events since the 1890’s, including the hurricane of 1944 which did more than $30 million of damage, and wiped out both telephone and electricity.
Meetings are free and open to the public. Guests and members are invited to bring other guests to the meeting, and information is always available on how to become a member.
