The combined efforts of a township committee, business association and a local business owner are inviting the public to share a Birthday event for Revolutionary war hero
Joshua Huddy on Sunday, November 8 from noon to 2 p.m.
Dr. Jeff Schenker will portray Captain Huddy a military officer for the colonists who was born in Salem County and lived and operated a business in Colts Neck. He was later hung by the British in Highlands in retaliation for the death of a British soldier.
The event is being sponsored in part by the Colts Neck Business Association and the township’s 250 Committee to celebrate the year of activities honoring the nation’s birth. Mary Pahira, owner of the Colts Neck General Store on Route 537 near Route 34 offered to host the event at her store and will also have a birthday cake for Joshua’s Birthday.
A historic marker on Heyers Mill Road marks the lot adjacent to the Colts Neck Inn where Huddy ‘s house was when he owned the historic tavern.
The public is invited to attend the event and celebrate Huddy’s birthday.
