You Are Forgiven

Date:

Forgiven It was an impromptu, unexpected moment, but it was the perfect example of the Scriptural reading at today’s 9:30 mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Highlands.

The Gospel reading for the day focused on forgiveness, not seven times but 77 times. The Reverend Thomas Maliavarapu offered the mass and during the homily gave a stirring talk on forgiveness, citing various examples of how and why everyone should forgive any wrongs, large or small, done to them, in order to expect forgiveness of faults of their own.

With the mass crowded, with the monthly Knights of Columbus Breakfast ongoing in the adjacent OLPH school, the parking lot was crowded, with all spots taken.

At the end of Mass, Father, in thanking everyone for coming to mass and wishing everyone a happy day, noted there is a new sign at a parking spot saying “Pastor Parking Only” to ensure that the priest offering mass, and coming from St. Agnes generally after also offering an earlier mass there, would have a parking space. The spot was taken by the time Father Thomas arrived, so he asked that in the future, the sign be observed.

As he finished speaking, Courtney Grogran, the young mother of two youngsters often seen in the choice loft with her, called down to Father, “That’s my car, Father, I thought you were here already, I couldn’t find a spot and had to be here to play the organ.  I’m sorry.!”

As the congregation laughed at Grogan’s open and very honest admission, Father immediately smiled, raised hand in blessing towards her and said, “You’re forgiven.”

The congregation applauded!
